Bob Rothstein was one of the founding partners of the firm in 1976. His practice focuses on all forms of complex civil and criminal litigation with an emphasis on civil rights, catastrophic injury, commercial and business torts and white-collar criminal law. He is a frequent speaker and instructor on topics of trial practice and substantive law.

Education: Mr. Rothstein received his B.A. from the University of California in 1966, his M.A. in political science from UCLA in 1967, his C. Phil. in political science from UCLA in 1970 and his law degree from the University of California (Boalt Hall) in 1974. He also completed two years of advanced study at the Center for the Study of Law and Society at the University of California.

Prior positions: Prior to starting this firm, Mr. Rothstein was a New Mexico Public Defender in the appellate and trial divisions.

Professional memberships: Mr. Rothstein is admitted to practice before the New Mexico state courts, federal district courts in New Mexico, Arizona and the Western District of Texas, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, New Mexico, and the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition, he is a member of The Association of Trial Lawyers of America, The New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association (past Board Member), The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, The New Mexico Criminal Defense Lawyers' Association (past-President), American Inns of Court (Master Bencher), The American Board of Trial Advocates, and served as a member and chair of the New Mexico Supreme Court Rules of Evidence Committee. He is currently a member of the Supreme Court Rules of Civil Procedure Committee, the Melvin L. Belli Society, and the Academy of Catastrophic Injury Attorneys. He has a Martindale-Hubbell AV-rating, and is listed in "Best Lawyers in America" in three areas: personal injury, labor and employment law and criminal law. He has served as an instructor and team leader at numerous national and regional NITA programs and as a faculty member at the Absolute Civil and Criminal Trial Practice Programs.

Notable cases: Montoya v. City of Las Vegas ($4.2 million settlement in police shooting case); Archuleta v. New Mexico State Police ($1.8 million verdict in police shooting case); Phase I Microbiology (intellectual property); served as special prosecutor for the Navajo Nation in successful government corruption prosecutions of tribal officials; over 30 reported appellate decisions, including GEICO v.
