PRIEST SEX ABUSE SURVIVOR SUES NM ATTORNEY GENERAL FOR WITHHOLDING PUBLIC RECORDS

Posted by Unknown | Apr 07, 2021

After the NMAG withheld more than 26,000 pages of public records documenting connections between credibly accused priests and New Mexico, Rothstein Donatelli filed a lawsuit on behalf of a priest sex abuse survivor to obtain those public records.  For decades, Catholic Church authorities sent pedophile priests to New Mexico knowing they would find their way into our communities. All too often, this resulted in the destruction of innocence and lifelong pain and suffering. Some New Mexico communities unknowingly and unwillingly spent generations with predators in their midst. A culture of secrecy provided protection to these predators for too long. Transparency begets healing and is long overdue. It is the least of what is owed to survivors of rampant priest sexual abuse in New Mexico.

The immense strength of survivors and their ability to overcome demands a similar resolve and fight in both private and public advocates. We continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with them in demanding transparency, accountability and justice.
